Peanut Brittle is one of those confections that makes your mouth water even before you sink your teeth into that first crisp, golden piece. And while neighborhood store shelves and online storefronts offer many varieties of peanut brittle for sale, nothing, and we do mean nothing, beats a fresh batch made at home, especially at the holidays.
That’s where we come in.
The George J. Howe Company, a small family-owned company in Western Pennsylvania, has been making the holidays a little tastier since 1927. Now approaching our 85th Christmas season, we present to you our famous “Here’s Howe” Peanut Brittle recipe which has become a yuletide tradition for thousands of families.
Here’s what you need to make it your next amazing holiday tradition:
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup raw peanuts (½ pound)
1 teaspoon baking soda
And here are the six simple steps to peanut brittle bliss:
1. Combine the first four ingredients in a sauce pan and cook over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves.
2. Add the raw peanuts. Of course, we only use Howe’s fresh raw peanuts.
3. Increase the heat to high and stir constantly until the peanuts become light brown.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Quickly stir in baking soda and then spread thinly on greased shallow pan.
6. Allow to harden and cool, then break into pieces and enjoy!
